G.L. Batra was born on September 20, 1937 in village Rodu Sultan in District Jhang in West Punjab (now in Pakistan).
His father, Lala Kesar Dass Ji, respectfully addressed as Lala Ji by the villagers, migrated from village Rodu Sultan and after spending few months in the migrant camps in Delhi, settled in Village Arya Nagar (then known as Kurri) in District Hisar.He was the Lambardar of Arya Nagar.
His great-grand father was Tulsi Dass.
His mother passed away when he was a boy. Lala Ji married Parvati Bhagwanti Devi Ji, respectfully addressed as Mata Ji by the villagers.
G.L. Batra’s elder brother Late Ram Saran Ji was an accomplished person. His elder sisters were Late Daya Arora and Late Shakuntala Devi (born to Parvati Bhagwanti Devi Ji).
Lala ji and Mata Ji were lived selfless lives. They generously donated for the welfare of the people. The Gurukul near Hisar is built on the land donated by them. They also donated land and contributed funds for the building of a temple in the village.Temple is located next to their ancestral house. They also built a Dharamshala in Haridwar.
Mata Ji was a devout woman. She dedicated her entire life to take care of her husband, children and the villagers of Arya Nagar.
